Our Preamps

Oak Street Recording Studios features a carefully selected range of boutique, vintage, and custom preamps designed to give every track its own unique sonic signature. At the heart of the collection are eight channels of beautifully restored Ampex 600/601 preamps - rebuilt by Electric & Company to deliver classic tube warmth and character. For tonal flexibility, we offer the vibrant A-Designs Pacifica (2-channel), the rich, punchy Electrodyne 2501, and the legendary SSL 4000 G preamp with built-in compression and EQ. Ribbon microphones are perfectly matched with the ultra-clean AEA RPQ3, while the custom David Evans Twin Flick brings modern versatility to any source.

One of the studio’s most distinctive features is the custom Tropical Fish Wurlitzer preamp - a handwired, all-tube unit designed to deliver warm, clean gain and lush tremolo effects for Wurlitzer, Rhodes, guitar, and other instrument-level signals. With powered and passive input options, it allows direct connection of a Wurlitzer electric piano to any mixer or amp, and serves equally well as a high-quality effects unit for guitars and keyboards. Both the cabinet and electronics are handcrafted, making this a true centerpiece for creative tone shaping.
