Keyboards
Our keyboard collection has been assembled to inspire creativity across genres, blending timeless acoustic instruments with rare vintage electric keyboards and synthesizers that bring distinctive character to every recording. The Live Room features two exceptional upright pianos, including a Yamaha U1F and a beautifully maintained 1965 Yamaha U1, both offering a balanced, expressive tone suited for everything from intimate singer-songwriter performances to cinematic arrangements. For classic electric keyboard textures, artists have access to a vintage Wurlitzer 120 with its unmistakable bark and warmth, a Rhodes 73 renowned for its smooth bell-like tone and dynamic response, and a rare Philicorda GM754 organ that delivers hauntingly beautiful transistor-organ textures heard throughout classic psychedelic and European recordings. The Hammond B2 organ, paired with a matching Leslie 330 rotary speaker, provides the rich harmonic depth, movement, and swirling dimensionality that defined countless soul, jazz, gospel, and rock recordings throughout the twentieth century.
Adding even more character to the studio is the extraordinary Kramer “Kewpie” Chinoiserie-style Mini-Grand Player Piano from the 1920s, a visually stunning and historically unique instrument that brings an unmistakable vintage atmosphere and tonal personality to sessions. Its intricate craftsmanship and antique mechanical charm make it as inspiring visually as it is sonically.
Beyond the Live Room, the Workshop offers artists an expansive creative playground filled with unusual vintage synthesizers, electric pianos, and experimental keyboards designed for exploration and sonic discovery. The collection includes a Univox Stringman, famous for lush orchestral string textures; two rare Optigan optical-disc keyboards capable of producing eerie, lo-fi rhythms and orchestral accompaniments unlike anything else; a Casiotone 701 with its unmistakable early digital charm; a Behringer Poly D inspired by the legendary analog monosynth designs of the 1970s; a Yamaha CP25 electric piano delivering punchy stage-piano character; and a vintage Korg electric piano with beautifully textured analog tones. Together, these instruments provide artists, producers, and composers with an enormous palette of sounds ranging from pristine and elegant to gritty, nostalgic, and experimental, making Oak Street Recording Studios a uniquely inspiring environment for writing, arranging, layering, and recording music.
